Alex Premat has confirmed his departure from GRM, announcing via statement:
"After examining my driving options both here and overseas and having had discussions with Garry I have decided to explore other avenues and I have informed Garry that I will not be driving for GRM in season 2014. "
Premat joined Garry Rogers' outfit in 2012, but struggled to fully come to grips with the series. 2013 offered a fresh start with the introduction of the COTF rules, resulting in a few glimpses of strong pace towards the end of the year. After 50 years the team will become Volvo Polestar Racing in 2014, with Scott McLaughlin confirmed as the team's lead driver.
Rumours have circulated that Volvo will want a Swedish driver from their existing program brought into the team. Until recently Premat strongly denied the whispers that he would lose his seat, but as per his statement these rumours appear true.
Premat's pedigree is strong; having partnered Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in GP2, seasons were spent in the DTM primarily with Audi. A Le Mans podium finisher, Premat's options may lie back home in Europe for 2014.
