As darkness fell over Sydney Motorsport Park and the chequered flag was waved on Round 2 of the 2013 AMC it became obvious that confusion was in the air. The question of who’d won outright was being asked and opinions as to why it wasn’t the CXC Global Mitsubishi Evo of Dylan Thomas / Stuart Kostera were being voiced. With Kostera at the wheel and a lap up their sleeve the blue Evo had pitted for a splash and dash as the flag was waved and was then classified as a non-finisher due to being in pitlane.

IMG_3751 The Beric Lynton / Tim Leahey Alphera Financial Services BMW 1M was declared winner but only provisionally until a hearing at the next round which is to be held at Queensland Raceway on August 2-4.

Another BMW in the form of an 135i and driven by Grant and Iain Sherrin crossed the line in 2nd followed by the Mitsubishi of Garry Holt / Ryan McLeod who’d run well despite a small pitstop fire.

The favoured team of Bob Pearson / Glen Seton led 27 laps before clutch and gearbox problems saw them tumble down the order to eventually retire with 80 laps on the board. Seton had planted the Pro Duct Mitsubishi on pole with a 1.40.4747 lap in Saturday’s 2nd qualifying session.

A major on-track incident on Saturday involved the Michael Sherrin / David Ayers shared Mini impacting the drivers left concrete wall exiting the pits for practice.

Of the 16 starters (19 entries) 13 were still running at the flag. First retirement being the Mazda 3 of Jake Camilleri / Scott Nicolas after 54 minutes. They were joined at the 2 hour 22 minute mark by the Scott and Michael Gore BMW 130i and then 8 minutes later by Pearson and Seton.

IMG_0679 For the first hour the AMC cars were joined on track by the Hi-Tec Oils Australian Suzuki Swift series in a mini enduro of their own, Ben Grice being victorious from Allan Jarvis and Luke Fraser.

The results may still be hanging in the breeze but followers of production enduro racing will be wryly smiling that the 3 hour at the Creek brought more drama to the series and has people talking about what’s going to happen at Queensland Raceway both behind closed doors and on track.
